Scrappy’s Bucket List (SBL), a Division of Student Affairs program at Kennesaw State University, today earned a Catalyst Award called the “Optimizing the Student Experience Award.” The awards recognize institutions of higher learning around the globe using technology to develop educational and administrative innovations.

Aptly named after Kennesaw State’s mascot, SBL includes 63 activities for students to cross off before they graduate.

“Students who are engaged members of the University community are more likely to do well in their studies and graduate,” Vice President for Student Affairs Eric Arneson said. “SBL challenges students to participate in a broad array of meaningful and diverse campus experiences intended to strengthen students' sense of belonging.”

Some SBL activities include attend a Homecoming event, snap a selfie at Fifth Third Bank Stadium, attend a Diversity Week program, and join a registered student organization. Students can track their progress online and earn rewards as they complete the list.

Scrappy’s Bucket List provides exciting opportunities for students to be engaged on both Kennesaw State campuses, and this award showcases its importance,” Assistant Director of Strategic Planning, Assessment and Analysis Jessica Duvall said. “SBL encourages students to meet new people, try new experiences and have fun.”

Technology companies Blackboard and Anthology teamed up to create the Catalyst Award program to recognize institutions using their programming to address new and changing dynamics in categories such as engagement, student services, recruitment and more.

SBL, launched in fall semester 2021, uses Anthology Engage to incentivize and provide a clear pathway to campus engagement for students. In the first year of implementation, nearly 60 percent of students had made progress toward completing Scrappy’s Bucket List.
