Josh Hatcher was selected 289th overall by the Texas Rangers in the 10th round of the 2022 MLB Draft on Monday evening. The selection marked the 72nd draft pick in KSU baseball history and extended the streak of 14 consecutive years the Owls have had at least one player drafted (excluding the 2020 COVID shortened draft).

Hatcher ended the year with the second highest batting average (.391) in the program's Division I history and set a new single-season program record for doubles (26) and slugging percentage (.667). The Ranger's draft pick also became the second Owl to surpass the 100-hit mark in a single season (Max Pentecost - 113 hits, 2014).

At the conclusion of the 2022 Men's College World Series, the KSU outfielder ranked first in the NCAA in both hits (109) and doubles (26). He was named a first-team All-ASUN selection and Collegiate Baseball Third Team All-American.

Hatcher was one of three Owls to start all 64 games during the 2022 season. The Owls' leadoff hitter totaled 279 at bats which ranks as the most in a single season in KSU history. The All-American also scored 66 runs to set another program record.

In a thrilling victory at No. 12 Georgia Tech (Mar. 23), Hatcher became the first player in KSU history to hit for the cycle. Two games later, he repeated the feat and became only the third player in NCAA history to hit for two cycles in the same season.

At the ASUN Conference Tournament, the center fielder collected the ASUN Tournament Most Valuable Player Award and helped lead the Owls to their first ASUN Tournament Championship and NCAA Regional appearance since 2014.

Hatcher continued to dominate at the NCAA Hattiesburg Regional and was selected to the All-Tournament Team. Hatcher finished 6-for-12 (.500) with two home runs, one double, four RBI and six runs scored.

Following the conclusion of the season, Hatcher was selected to the ABCA/Rawlings Southeast All-Region Second Team. He also became the first KSU non-freshman to be named an All-American since Max Pentecost in 2014.
