Is Your Student Interested in On-Campus Housing? Here’s What You Need to Know About the Waitlist and More!

Large block letters spell, "WAITLIST INFORMATION" on a black background. Other letters around the main phrase say, "Fees?", "Avoid Misinformation", "The Process" and "Time Tickets!"
From kennesaw.edu/housing

We are officially on a waitlist for all student populations, which are separated by First-Year vs. Upper Class, Male vs. Female, and based on whether they belong to the Kennesaw or Marietta campus.

We know the waitlist process for on-campus housing can be overwhelming, especially for students and parents who have never gone through the process before. Don't worry, we're here to help! Here are some important things you and your student need to know about the waitlist:

Avoid Misinformation

There may be a lot of misinformation out there, so avoid relying on social media or hearsay. Instead, visit the Housing and Residence Life website for the most up-to-date information. If you can’t find the answer to your question(s) on our website, contact the Talon One Service Center. Our team is here to provide accurate information and guidance every step of the way.

The Waitlist Process

We understand the uncertainty that comes with adding your student to a waitlist for on-campus housing. However, hundreds of students are placed off the waitlist each summer, and we work hard to accommodate as many students as possible.

Our waitlist is organized by the order in which Room Selection time tickets open. We do not place students on a waitlist — when a student’s time ticket begins, they may add themselves to the waitlist available for their population (classification, gender and campus).

Once they add themselves to a waitlist, our system automatically provides them with a number to let them know how many people are ahead of them. Students can check their place on the waitlist at any time by returning to the front page of the Housing Portal.

Housing and Residence Life will continue placing students from the waitlist throughout the summer until Friday, July 28, 2023, when placements will be paused until after Move-In. Waitlist placements will resume again on Monday, August 14.

If a student does not want to place themselves on a waitlist, they must complete this form to cancel their 2023 - 24 Housing Application.

Time Tickets

We use time tickets for waitlist placement to make the process as fair as possible. Time tickets were assigned based on when the student completed the first step of the Housing Application. The Housing Application opened for First-Year students on December 1. The earlier students applied, the earlier their time ticket would be. Your student can find their time ticket in the Housing Portal.

First-Year and Upper Class Waitlists

There are multiple waitlists for First-Year and Upper-Class students divided by gender and campus. Each waitlist operates independently, and it is up to each student to ensure they are on the correct one. When it is time for your student to add themselves to the waitlist, encourage them to make sure they select the correct option (e.g., First-Year Female – Kennesaw).

Roommate Selection

Unfortunately, Roommate Selection was only available for First-Year students until April 7. Students on the waitlist will be offered a room based on availability, not roommate or community preferences. If your student is part of a Roommate Pair, they must first separate from the pair in order to view available waitlist options. If your student receives an offer to live on campus, their roommates will be whoever has already placed themselves into that unit. Visit our website for more information about how to separate from a Roommate Pair.

Understanding Fees

We understand that the non-refundable $200 application fee paid when completing the first step of the Housing Application can be confusing. This $200 application fee is not a deposit and does not guarantee students a room; unfortunately, it is not refundable.

Now that we are at a waitlist, students who have not yet applied do not have to pay the $200 application fee in order to add themselves to the waitlist. However, they must still pay the $200 fee plus an additional $75 room booking fee if they are eventually placed into a room on campus.

Staying Informed

Once they have added themselves to a waitlist, students should regularly check their place on the waitlist in the Housing Portal. They should also regularly check their KSU email and phone for possible on-campus room assignment offerings. Additionally, they should be prepared to receive a call or email with an on-campus housing offer, and they should have a voicemail set up in case of a missed call. Students will only have 48 business hours to accept an offer before it is offered to the next person in line.

If you or your student have any questions about the waitlist, please view our 2023 – 24 Waitlist webpage. If there are any questions not addressed in our online resources, please contact the Talon One Service Center at (470) 578-8663 (T-ONE) or email talonone@kennesaw.edu.

I requested connection to my student, she received an email but when she tried to give me permission it said “an error occurred” and to contact an administrator.

What are the chances of being placed in Freshman housing for female first year? My daughter is #133 on the list and I'm getting nervous with school starting in about 30 days.
