A Guide to Campus Parking for Your Student

As a parent, you want your student’s college experience to be as stress-free as possible. We understand that finding parking on campus can be difficult for your student. Parking and Transportation’s main priority is providing students with the access they need to campus. Our strategy focuses on minimizing traffic congestion and overcrowding while still providing ample parking options.

We carefully issue Parking Permits to maintain a balance between student needs and available spaces. To achieve this balance, we issue on-campus permits conservatively and conduct space counts multiple times per day to monitor occupancy and avoid issuing too many permits to a particular area.

However, when students do not park in their permitted area, it counteracts our efforts to manage parking resources and ensure students have space in their permitted area. To address this, we send detailed communication to students at their KSU email address that outlines the parking areas associated with the Parking Permit they selected. This information is also available on the Parking Portal and our website.

In the first few days of classes, we begin enforcing rules for those without permits (who have been parking on campus) and those with permits parking outside their permitted area(s). This helps to reduce the overcrowding as students settle into a routine based on their class schedule.

If your student has a parking permit but would like to avoid the heavy traffic in the early weeks of the semester, they can park in the Shuttle Lot next to the KSU Center (3305 Busbee Drive). From there, they can take the Big Owl Bus to campus, which runs from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday through Thursday, and from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Fridays. Any permit holder can park in the Shuttle Lot.

As we enter the third week of classes, it is very important for students to select a Parking Permit if they haven't already. We closely monitor occupancy and make additional permits available for areas in high demand through the Parking Portal.

Please encourage your student to review our rules and regulations for parking on campus and follow these tips to avoid a citation:

  • Check that their license plate is correctly listed and linked to their permit through the Parking Portal.
  • Park in their permitted area.
  • Make sure their license plate is visible from the drive aisle or get a KSU-issued front plate at the Talon One Service Center if they prefer to back in.
  • Avoid parking in faculty/staff lots marked with burgundy signage at the entrance as well as spaces labeled and marked with a green stripe in shared lots and decks.

If your student has any questions, they can contact the Talon One Service Center at (470) 578-8663 (T-ONE) or talonone@kennesaw.edu.
